  • The Good Trio 三人行 @ JCube
Sunday, April 23, 2017 | Posted by Jean
When they first open their second outlet in JCube, I was skeptical about what they have got to offer. The menu caught my attention, even though I was pretty sure I have seen some of the dishes elsewhere. However, it was the price that caught me by surprise that they are actually much affordable than the bigger players out there.

There wasn't much publicity on them, but I was lucky to find them on a restaurant portal called Eatigo. If you have yet to hear about the awesome Eatigo app, please go and download it now! Why? Because it helps you get up to 50% discount at various restaurant everyday!

So my mum and I booked our first visit through the app and only got a 20% discount, since it was still in the peak hour range. To our surprise, the food there taste really good! We have since gone back so many times and brought different groups of friends and guests to try out their food.

    Deep Fried Pig's Intestine

Salted Egg Yolk Chicken - One of the best that I ever tasted.

Deep-Fried Corn-Shaped Fish - It is common to mistaken them to be corn, because it's meant to shaped like this! But this is actually deep fried fish filet with sweet and sour sauce coated all over it. Super yummy!

Stir-Fried French Beans - Savoury enough that matches so well with just a bowl of plain rice.

Braised Nanping Noodles - MUST TRY! It is so flavourful and packed with lots of ingredients, you won't regret ordering it.

Stir-Fried Yam With Sesame - All time favourite! If you love yam as much as I do, pleaseeeeeeeeee order this and you will fall in love with it! Deep fried yam coated with a layer of melted sugar, it makes the crust crunchy and the insides becomes flake and creamy at the same time. This will always be on my table everytime I visit them.

To be honest, I had more dishes than what I have shown here. It's just a pity that photos wasn't captured the other few times as I was dining with my distant relatives and business associates, who doesn't quite understand and appreciate my love for taking photos before eating. HAHA! Thus, no photos of the good awesome food, but I will be there some other days to eat again. Till then, I will update this post again. :)

Ka Ki Nang - Two Wheels Good Cafe @ Jurong Point
Saturday, April 22, 2017 | Posted by Jean
Do you prefer Bah Chor Mee or Fishball Noodles? :)

Recently I discovered this eatery right outside Jurong Point, which used to host Baskin Robbins and Wendys. What caught our (my colleagues and I) attention was the interior design of the eatery, and the menu with had a mixture of English, Mandarin and Teochew! It is pretty much hipster styled cafe that serves affordable local food. You might relate it to the usual bah chor mee stores in coffeeshops and kopitiam, but this shop, they serve it the teochew style. Other than the fishball noodles (yea, there is no bah chor mee here), there was also a fushion element which they include in HongKong style dishes like the BBQ skewers and the braised chicken drumstick rice.

First time we went, it took us by surprise that the fishball noodles taste so yummy!! The noodles were cook at that 'perfection' where the texture were well maintain - which is what we normal refer to as al dente for pastas. The seasonings were balanced and the wholesome bowl of goodness is something I haven't tasted in a long while from other bah chor mee/fishball noodles stalls.

    Our first visit! :)

I had the Signature Teochew Fishball Kuay Teow Mee, while my colleague had her Mee Tai Mak (another kind of rice flour noodle).

    QQ~~ Firm and chewy!

HongKong Style BBQ - Broccoli, Mushroom & Beef

I didn't quite like the HK Style BBQ skewers, because they uses the same sauce for everything. It was very strong in taste and it took away the original flavour of the ingredient. They tend to cool down a bit too fast and once it was cold, it really doesn't taste good anymore. If you have tried loklok in Malaysia, I believe you will know the comparison better.

While we were eating, the other dishes caught our attention too! The fried bee hoon, the char kuay teow, they all look super yummy at the other tables! We knew we have to come back again, which we did!

    Our second visit!

Ngoh Hiong Platter (Small) - Nothing fantastic over here, except for the century egg with the gluey yolk!

Fish Otah - Not the best I had, but good enough to satisfy your craving.

Fried Bee Hoon - LOVE IT! It was dry and moist at the same time, which not many hawkers are able to do it. Together with the wok hei (the slightly charred texture that gives a unique fragrant), this is so so good! Totally will go back for this!

Char Kuay Teow - Since it's teochew style, it is meant to be sweeter than your usual char kuay teow. And yes, I wouldn't mind going back here for this too whenever I have a craving for it! :D

All in all, the experience there is awesome and I would definitely go back there and recommend it to my friends. I felt like they deserve a shoutout too, given that the food is good but the location might not do them any justice.

So if you are staying in the west, around Jurong area, or even when you are staying somewhere else with the love for fishball noodles, give them a try! Hawkers like this needs our support in order to continue serving us affordable and tasty food! :)\

    Redpan @ Marina Square
Saturday, March 12, 2016 | Posted by Jean
I love fushion food! I'm always curiously about how chefs plays around with the flavours and discover new dishes to be trending in the food scene.

I discovered Redpan during the wee hours of the night, while browsing the net aimlessly on my phone. And the more I read about them, the more excited I got. Within 10mins, I already reserved a table to dine in the next day.

Reached the restaurant at 7pm as per what I reserved, but shockingly, the waitress told us that all grilled items are 'out of stock' already. Say what?! I was still looking forward to try the beef leh~ Next time perhaps.

    Truffle Mushroom Soup - $8

The truffle smell was so sexy when the waiter was about to arrive at our table. There is no truffle shavings, and it's not oily - given that there is truffle olive oil in the supermarkets now - but the rich truffle smell & taste was there! Then again, I like my mushroom soup with chunky mushroom but this doesn't have any.

Char Siew Chilli Fries - $7

One of their signature fries is the Char Siew Chilli Fries and the other is the Truffle Floss Fries. Decided on this, because it is totally 'brand new' in the market! Not too sweet, not spicy, not salty, with the compliments of the sour cream & jalapeño salsa, I can only describe it in one word - ADDICTIVE! So yummy that I think I can have this without sharing. :D

    Pork Pops - $9

Even though I know it's pork belly, but this is way too oily, especially when it starts to cool after serving. Even though the pork was flavourful, not salty, but the oil was soaking the bottom half portion of the pork. Mango sauce wasn't impressive too, as it was just sweet. If I were to do this as home, the pork should be less oily, and the sauce should mimick thai sauces that has a bit of acidic level and some spicyness that helps cease the oil that ooze out of the pork.

    'Lup Cheong' Mac & Cheese - $14

Cheesy, creamy & tender. They are generous with the cheese and lup cheong bits, and surprisingly, it not as salty as I thought it would be. If you don't mind the jilat-ness, you can order it as a personal main course. But for me, I would prefer to share the fats with others.

Prawn & Hae Bi Hiam Pasta - $16

I'm never a hae bi hiam (shrimp paste) fan and often think that the smell is too pungent in the mouth. However, I have to try this because it's one of their signature main course and I have company to finish it for me if I didn't like it. :P This dish however, is not as 'smelly' as I thought it would be. Took the first bite & decided that 5-6 more bites won't kill. The sauce is well coated with the pasta, and every bite you take, it ensures maximum flavour in your mouth.

Banana Donuts ‘Milo Dinosaur' - $7

As a huge fan of banana dessert, it hard to give this a miss even though I was really full. The last time I had a banana donut, it was from one of the malay stalls that sells them as snack. This one here is a bit more doughy, even though there is still taste of the banana. The Milo powder wasn't as sweet as it should be, so end up, this dessert was just passable.

I am determine to return to Redpan someday to try their 'Steak & Chinchalok' & some other fushion dishes. Overall, it's slightly pricey but it's worth for the experience to expose your palate to fushion food.

[CLOSED] Three Little Pigs Cafe @ Ngee Ann City
Thursday, February 18, 2016 | Posted by Jean
Got interested in the name of the restaurant when we first walked past it. I'd expect that the interior design would be some fairy tale theme that match up to it's name, but it was the menu that brings out the meaning.

The Three Little Pigs Cafe serves a wide range of pork dishes, but there are alternatives for non-pork lovers too. Even though it's located in Orchard, the price range is still considered affordable.

     Mushroom Soup

Nothing too impressive. Would have been better if there are chunkier mushrooms in the soup that adds on to the texture & flavour.

    Deep Fried Eryngii Mushroom

Too much batter! It masked away the original flavour of the mushroom, and by my third piece, I started peeling off the batter coat and eat the mushroom instead. Definitely not gonna order it again.

    Cheesy Pork Fries

There was a mix of opinions at the table for this. My friends like me, thought it was pretty decent, where the pork toppings compliments the bland fries with the cheese & mayo. My mum however, thought it was too salty. Worth the try and worth sharing it with a group of friends. Might be too 'jilat' for two.

    Scrambled Eggs With Pork Patties

Easily our favourite among all the dish we ordered! The fluffy eggs done perfectly, the pork patties were moist & flavourful, and the potato salad (hidden behind the pork patties) is definitely a heart winner! Take a small portion of each and eat it in a bite, you will realise that this is the kind of breakfast set you want for your Sunday morning!

Garlic Al Funghi Pork Chop (Creamy Forest Mushroom With Garlic)

Pork chop was a tad too tough, and the topping of forest mushroom doesn't give any wow factor to impress us. Baked potatoes however, was really tasty! We believe that instead of boiling in just plain hot water, it was boiled in flavourful stock where the potato itself retains the flavours. Topped with a bit of mayo & pork floss, it's yummier than the pork chop. Opps.

    Grilled Kurobuta Pork

The only dish where I felt the portion was a tad too small. I was expecting a larger slab, like those 'Beef Short Ribs' you eat at Korean BBQ, but this is just not filling enough.

    Chicken Vegetables Stew

Fort the non-pork lovers, this is really really good! The chicken is roasted till perfection as the meat are still tender & juicy. Well seasoned and eat together with the stew, your belly will be filled with warm happiness in no time! They are also very generous with the vegetables in the stew too. Carrots, Onion, Mushroom, Potato & Zucchini, very filling & I might return just for this dish!

    Laksa Linguinie

Mehh~~ The taste of laksa is distinct, but somehow, something is missing. I've tried a couple ok laksa pasta at different places, some were too spicy, some were too salty. And this, it is just not fragrant & creamy enough. If it's creamier, the gravy would have clinged onto the bland linguinie and enhance the flavour in your mouth. But since it is not, we have to 'eat them separately' like they are two dishes.

In my humble opinion, Three Little Pigs Cafe is another option for your affordable dining place in town, but are the pork dishes really impressive? I would say no at the moment, but I am kind to try out more of their dishes!

    QQ Noodle House @ Bugis
Friday, January 8, 2016 | Posted by Jean
I have always walked past the eatery whenever I shop around Bugis+ & Bugis Junction, but I just didn't get the chance to give QQ House a try, given that there are always so many restaurants in the same area.

So one fine day, I decided to try it with my mum after shopping from Raffles City, down to Suntec & finally to Bugis. Yea, we walked quite a bit. :P

The menu itself was impressive. I never expect that there were so many different items in such a small place. They have appetizer, soups, lots of noodle choices and if you ain't a fan for noodles, they have rice dishes too.

Being the first time there, of course we ordered what was recommended, the signature dishes, and I'm glad I made the right choice. It was so delicious, I had to bring my better half there to try again just few days apart.

QQ House Speciality - Premium Kolo Mee

Premium Kolo Mee is the same as the normal kolo mee they have, just that there is more toppings - which I believe it's only the prawns. Nonetheless, it is still as good! The noodles are springy and the fragrant shallot oil is the one that binds everything together and make it so tasty! It is something that I always refers to "家的味道" (a taste of home), where I find it in my grandma's cooking.

    Stir-Fry QQ Noodles

If you like Char Kuay Teow, then you should try this! Instead of the normal soft flat rice noodle, it is replace to the springy QQ Noodles! Flavourful at every bite with the sweet & soy sauce coating evenly on the noodles. It replaced the love I had for char kuay teow. :D

    Creamed Abalone Mushroom

Creamy, crunchy, crispy, fragrant! If you always go to tze char stalls and order Butter Crab or Butter Prawns, TRY THIS! The price of this is much friendly to your pocket, but it gives you the same satisfaction & your tastebuds will thank you for this.

All in all, I believe QQ Noodle House serves really decent food at affordable prices. I like the consistency in their food standard and I hope they do continue to maintain it. Definitely going back again to try more of their dishes in future! :)

    Just ME. :)
Friday, January 1, 2016 | Posted by Jean
Taddaahhh~ Well.. before the first day of 2016 comes to an end, I have decided to post a short entry about myself to kick start my food & travel blog.

I am not any social media influencer, and I hardly get sponsored to restaurants for food tasting these days. None of my trips are sponsored thus far, and my photos may not be the best that you seen too. My command of english is not fantastic, but I miss blogging & I am passionate to share good stuffs with anyone. :)

I travel once in a while, because I have a lovely mum who loves to travel too. Eventually, I became one of the companion that she choose to travel with. Food photography became a hobby over the years, and I made a promise with myself that once I get a new camera for my food & travelogues, I will restart my blogging too.

Yes, I used to blog, but that was more than 6-7 years ago. Throughout this years, more and more 'bloggers' became famous and some were lucky that they get paid through blogging. I am trying to jump onto the bangwagon with the other influencers, that's not my priority, but I'd be happy if someday I were to be given opportunities like them too. Most importantly, I am giving myself a space to remember my trips in details, and countless meals I get to enjoy with great companions.

2015 ended too fast and furiously for me, and I felt that I started to lose myself in a busy hectic full-time job. 2016 marks a start for me to remind myself that 'PASSION' is a very important factor in life, and that it is a motivator to keep you moving forward to learn & give more than you could.

    To a better year ahead, to a juicy-licious blog ahead~ Happy 2016, earthlings. :)
